Sara is here!

Angela woke me around 2a because her water had broken an hour earlier. She took a shower and put on some clothes before waking me up - probably because she knew I would be excited and she wanted to have a calm start to the day which would certainly be fully of excitement.
We left around 2:15a and headed up to Ballard. The day start off fairly slow, but the contractions started to get painful around 10a or so and there was some panic for half an hour or so before she could get an epidural put in. After that, it was pretty relaxed for a while - we played cards and chatted about everything ahead that we had no idea how to fathom. Then, at 3:09p, it all went down.

Sara was having some trouble breathing when she was born, but she recovered when they put her on oxygen. Unfortunately, she had trouble again when they took her off and she was taken over to the Nicu - with me close in tow. Pretty much as soon as she got to the Nicu, she started breathing well on her own but she ended up staying there for the next 24 hours out of caution.
She spent the first couple of hours with me in the Nicu while Angela rested. When the doctors cleared Angela to move, she came over and got to hold Sara for the first time. We spend as long as we could with her in the Nicu, but they wouldn’t let us sleep there so we traded off heading back to the other room while one of us stayed with her.

Sara was doing better hour by hour and by the early afternoon, we were allowed to bring her back to our room. We spent the rest of the day recovering and trying to learn how to do nursing and eating. It was a hard day, but we were all in high spirits.
This was also the day that Sara started doing what she does best - sleeping!

The following day was hard - Sara was having trouble eating and we had to spend a lot of time with her trying to coax her to eat properly.
She also started making these really fun pig noises - we were both very tired, but this was funny. :)

Finally - day 4, it was time to go home!
Life will never be the same again and I wouldn’t change it for the world…
