No van camping on this trip - but we had such a fun time anyway that I decided to make a post about it. This weekend was Diane’s Birthday and we headed to Walla-Walla for some wine tasting/drinking to celebrate. We hit up three wineries and had a delicious dinner in Walla-Walla - then found a fun hike and brewery on the way back home. We (Angela, Sara, Tom) ended up leaving a bit late on Friday and made it to Walla-Walla fairly late (around 7) and got our dinner on the way. We did a bit of hanging out that evening but had an early night to prepare for the crazy day we had ahead of us.
After breakfast, we headed for the first Winery of the day - Walla-Walla vintners. The wine here was really good - My favorite was the merlot, but we had a cab that was also pretty good. The tasting room was pretty small/loud, but it was a great start to the day.
Sara decided that anything could become art…
Our second winery was Dunham Cellars - which was my favorite of the day. They were in an old WWII hanger and the place was covered in art - from a giant wine bottle christmas tree to painting/pictures all over the walls and smaller art installations on tables all around the outer walls. Wine was also good, heavily indexed to whites here which was either their specialty or what they had the most of… :)
Our last winery of the trip was Revelery - by far the most modern decor & wines of the trip. Also the most generous with the pours (and lots of them). Also the best views from a winery on the trip - which was awesome for such a sunny day.
Diane taught Sara to make - in both big and small.
On the way home we stopped at a petrified forest state park (Ginkgo petrified forest/Wanapum recreational area) and did a 1-2 mile hike. Very arid terrain (very different from Seattle/western WA) and it was fun to see all the petrified wood (protected inside concrete/gated enclosures).
We stopped in Ellensburg at a brewery for a quick drink/late lunch on our way home and made it back in the mid afternoon. Ended up being a quick trip, so we decided to stretch out our Sunday coming back. Great weekend - can’t wait to do it with bikes this summer!
