So I decided to try to find something on the Olympic peninsula for this trip. I found an interesting camp near Lake Cushman with some trails nearby that looked like fun. Lake Cushman is a beautiful area with some amazing day sites right along the beach. Here are some pictures of the lake.
You can see it in some of the photos below, but the water level was super low - which I suspect had to do with the snow we got and the melt overwhelming the dam (Lake Cushman is man made). It was an erie sight at times with these fields of sandy stumps where the water used to be…
The trail was called Dry creek and it started off in this very unique neighborhood - with the trail going through folks backyards. Within a mile, it left the neighborhood and started heading up a valley (Dry Creek valley) and started gaining elevation until we were in quite a bit of snow.

There was a tiny neighboorhood right at the start of the trail and this looked like it was becoming a tinyhome - still under construction of course, but you could see the bed frame and the makings of a small kitchen.
It had been somewhat warm recently (for Feb) and there was a lot of water on the trail - including a bunch of waterfalls draining off the hillside into the lake.
Sara got a huge kick out of the “water pool” and all the bubble that formed when the water came down the waterfall and landed in the little pool.
Time to move on - so we had to say goodbye 3 times to the watefall.
This time of year, the backpack is very cozy. After the quick run around to see all of the water - it’s time to hang out on daddy’s back in the warmth.
This is about where we stopped… :)
Finally, the trip summary by yours truely! This is a new thing for me, trying to record a summary on the way back from the trip. I didn’t keep them going particularly well, but I tried!
